Helpful Tips

Should I Do It Myself?

We want every dollar you spend to be worth it. Here is an honest breakdown of which jobs make sense to handle yourself and which ones are better left to the professionals.

Lawn Mowing

Got a small, flat lawn? You can probably handle it yourself with a push mower. For medium to large properties, or anything with slopes and tough terrain, commercial equipment saves serious time and delivers a cleaner cut. Our minimum charge for mowing is $71.

Leaf Blowing

The biggest mistake homeowners make with leaves is letting them pile up. Once they get thick and wet, a residential blower just will not cut it. Commercial blowers run at roughly twice the power of consumer models, making the job dramatically faster and more thorough.

Pine Straw

Labor runs about $5.58 per bale. An average person can install around 10 bales per hour. If you are spreading 20 or fewer bales on a flat area, doing it yourself is totally reasonable. For larger quantities, especially on slopes, hiring out is usually the better call.

Mulch

Labor costs between $3.24 and $4.60 per bag depending on the situation. Most people can spread about 10 bags per hour. For smaller beds, it is a manageable weekend project. Once you get above 30 or 40 bags, the physical effort adds up quickly and professional help starts making a lot more sense.

Hedge Trimming

Commercial hedge trimmers make this job considerably faster than handheld consumer models. Whether you DIY or hire out, the important thing is to trim your hedges at least twice a year to keep them healthy and looking sharp.

Debris Cleanup

Small branches and minor storm debris? A homeowner chainsaw and a couple trips to the dump will do the job just fine. If you are looking at a large downed tree, a serious brush pile, or anything that needs a dump trailer, that is where the professionals with the right equipment make all the difference.
